world record powerslide

A new world record for the longest car drift has been set by Mauro Calo, a stunt driver and McLaren and Mercedes-Benz's senior driving specialist.

He took the title from Vaughn Gittin Jr in a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, a motor that comes with a 6.3-litre V8 and which can go from zero to 62mph in 4.5 seconds, boasting a top speed of 155mph.

Calo broke Gittin's record by 394 metres, travelling 2,308 metres in total - nearly a mile-and-a-half - and completing almost eight laps on the tarmac at Mercedes-Benz World.

Commercial operations director with Mercedes-Benz Cars Andrew Mallery said: "[Calo] has been a valuable member of the driving experience team for several years and is a respected driver in the industry, so there was no doubt he would achieve his aim."

He is also the brainchild behind Automotive Exposure, a company that provides grade-A drivers for events, brochures and commercials.
